The National Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Association of Zambia joined the global community in commemorating 2025 Commonwealth Day under the theme “Together We Thrive.”
The event hosted at the OYDC Zambia - Sports Development Centre served as an opportunity to reflect on the core values of the Commonwealth and encourage young athletes to pursue excellence in both education and sport.
NOC/CGA Zambia Secretary General Boniface Kambikambi urged participants to use the occasion to reflect on and uphold Commonwealth values.

He emphasized that these values—such as humanity, equality, and destiny—are essential for fostering success both on and off the field.
Kambikambi further encouraged young athletes to remain dedicated to their sporting careers while excelling academically, as both disciplines contribute to personal growth and national development.
Jason Tran, Acting British High Commissioner to Zambia, expressed his delight at the Commission’s partnership with the NOC/CGA Zambia in promoting Commonwealth values.
He reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening this collaboration in the future, noting that such initiatives help empower Zambian athletes.
Tran also assured that the British High Commission will continue supporting and cheering on Zambian athletes, especially as they prepare for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The Commonwealth Day celebration highlighted the importance of unity, resilience, and progress, reinforcing the idea that by working together, athletes and communities can thrive.
The event also served as a reminder of Zambia’s growing presence on the global sporting stage, with the NOC/CGA playing a crucial role in preparing athletes for international competitions.
As Zambia looks ahead to Glasgow 2026, the spirit of Commonwealth unity remains a driving force in nurturing talent and fostering a culture of excellence in sport and education.
The event was witnessed by several representatives of sports associations, university students and their heads, school pupils and other invited guests.
A number of fun activities were conducted among them; egg race, tug of war, plank race, balloon pop among others.
The activities were supported by the British High Commission in Zambia.
